This wine represents a remarkable fusion of the historic 1st Growth Becsek and the Hárslevelű grape variety. It beautifully showcases the terroir, capturing the elegance and charm of this specific vineyard, which is enhanced even further by the subtlety of the Seguin Moreau oak barrels.
“Beauty without expression is boring” – Ralph Waldo Emerson
The distinguished character of the historic 1st growth Becsek finds a compelling expression in this poised, dry Hárslevelű. Judicious oak ageing lends refinement without overshadowing the varietal’s innate purity, unfolding a bouquet of white blossoms, bright citrus, and a subtle almond nuance.

We experienced the driest and hottest summer of the last century, which had an adverse effect on all types of grapes: slow plant growth, rapid increase in sugar, water stressed and pulpy berries. These conditions urged an early harvest of our dry wines, starting off with collecting the Zéta grape on the 24th of August and finishing the process on the 8th of September with our dry furmint. Despite these challenging circumstances the quality of the fruit exceeded our expectations, it was fine and juicy as it should be.
Becsek (or Betsek) is one of the most esteemed among the 300 historical first-growth vineyards in the Tokaj wine region. Spanning 94 acres, it is the largest vineyard in the 42 areas of Mád. The landscape is picturesque, featuring gently rolling hills surrounded by volcanic mountains in the eastern part of the Mád basin. Neighbouring vineyards include Harcsa, Veresek, Kakasok, Király, and Szilvás. The sub-vineyards are Great-Becsek, Small-Becsek, Burja, and Korposd.
Geologically, it is an extension of the zeolite and holystone-covered Király and Nyerges vineyards. The erosion of the tuff layer exposes materials that were disturbed by andesite lava flows and frost in the past. The microclimate in this area is remarkable. During the autumn season, foggy clouds linger until midday, a phenomenon that is essential for the development of Botrytis, also known as noble rot.
Becsek is one of the oldest vineyards in Mád, with its first records dating back to the 1420s when it was owned by noblemen and barons. Lord Ferenc Rákóczi II also traveled along these routes. Until the middle of the 20th century, the area belonged to the families of Baron Orczy and Szirmay.
This vineyard produces a distinctly unique dry Hárslevelű character compared to the others on the Estate. It features a rich character across all wine categories, both dry and sweet: depth, a mineral touch, complexity, salty notes, citrus, ripe pear, and floral aromas.
