“As the soil, however rich it may be, cannot be productive without cultivation, so the mind without culture can never produce good fruit.” – Seneca
On the nose rip medlar dominates the scent with pear, butter caramel, and oriental spices. On the palate apricot marmalade, medlar, rose-hip, orange and citruses lead the sip with a long finish.

January 2023 was especially mild with three times higher amounts of rain and snow than usual, the water was utilized well by the soil. Spring was oddly cool and foggy which delayed the start of sap flow in vines, and budding occured only on the 24th of April. Blooming started reluctantly on the 5th of June, 1 week later than last year. After all these challenges we were not surprised that dry harvest also began later this year, on the 7th of September at the first growth Dorgó with the Zéta grape. In the Autumn season due to the substantial amount of rain and high temperatures berries started to crack and botritis (noble rot) was on the rise too. This period required more precize sorting and all in all more time during the dry harvest which lasted till the 10th of October. Despite early botritis sugar levels were increasing slowly, so aszú harvest started only on the 2nd of October. On top of that Mád was hit by heavy rainfalls (more than 40 mm in a few days) in mid October which intensified the spread of botritis and the dilution of berries. Our team had to revisit all of our parcells ensuring that the grapes were picked at perfect ripeness. The harvest of 2023 ended on the 10th of November at the historical Holdvölgy vineyard. Despite the challenges throughtout the year, the grape bunches and berries were healthy and immaculate, and we were also able to collect highly concentrated berries for the CULTURE 6 puttonyos tokaji aszú.
A tokaji aszú wine is unique and limited. It is about unrepeatable and exceptional
uniqueness just like the most important moments of your life. Furthermore, a premium quality aszú wine preserves its value even for a century. This allows us to recall our most cherished memories with just a sip, using bottles made from fruit harvested in the year as the event.
Tokaj Aszú wines are released eight years after the harvest. Based on Holdvölgy’s experience, this is the optimal time for the wines to reach the maturity needed for exploration. To ensure customers can enjoy wines from significant vintages for themselves or their loved ones, these wines can be purchased before their official release year.
MORE THAN 50 YEARS
Our Tokaji Aszú wines can retain their quality and enjoyment for over 50 years when stored under ideal conditions.
